ALONG THE WAY, WE TEND TO PICK THINGS UP.
Ideas about who we are. Expectations. Responsibilities. Relationships. Ways of coping. Ways of protecting ourselves. Ways of getting through.
Many were adaptive. They may have been the best we could do at the time, with what we knew, what we had, and who we were at that particular point in our lives.
Others become more like a bag of bricks. We carry them because we’ve always carried them. And as life continues, we accumulate a few more.
What once helped us get through may now make it harder to move.
Eventually, the question might not be “What’s wrong with me?”
It might simply be:
“Do I still need to carry all of this?”
Perhaps part of living is learning the difference.
